Is it possible to swallow honeycomb wax while eating honey

Honeycomb honey differs from jarred honey mainly in that it contains (for obvious reasons) a large amount of wax. Every person who has had to try comb honey agrees that this delicacy of taste is simply extraordinary. However, at the same time, after the first consumption of such honey, many people have a natural question: what to do with the wax - to swallow or spit it out.

First of all, it should be remembered that the wax cells are made by bees from high molecular weight fats, which are so complex in structure that a rare organism is able to digest them, decomposing them into components. One of such examples of creatures with a "strong stomach" is the wax moth, thanks to which in the wild, by the way, bees' nests are cleaned.

As for the human stomach, there is not a single enzyme in it that can decompose into components the substances that make up beeswax, with rare exceptions. All that a human stomach can do is to digest the water-soluble compounds that make up propolis. A small amount of the latter is added to the honeycomb lids when preserving honey.

So the wax is not digested. At the same time, it is an excellent adsorbent - it has high properties of absorbing "everyone". This property can be very useful for a person, since when passing through the intestines, wax will absorb harmful substances and subsequently leave the body along with them, which is always good.

At the same time, the "magical" properties of wax for absorption can play a cruel joke with a person. This is because the wax absorbs the medicines that the bees could heal, as well as the fertilizers that could be used to treat the fields around. In this case, eating the wax can cause stomach upset. So don't buy wax from unverified beekeepers. When in doubt, it is best to take honey from a jar.

In all other cases: swallowing or spitting out is a personal question for everyone. A small amount of beeswax that gets into the stomach with comb honey is simply not capable of causing any serious harm to the human body.
